Natural Ludwig’s Angina Treatment

Swelling of the affected tissues in Ludwigs angina could occur quickly and could block the airway quickly to cause life threatening complications. Signs include difficulty in breathing, confusion or mental disorientation, chest pains, neck pain, neck swelling and redness, fever, weakness, body fatigue and extreme body malaise. Signs like drooling and earache can also occur.

Ludwig Angina is a kind of bacterial infection of the mouths floor (sublingual or below the tongue). It involves swelling of the airway and could block the air which could cause myocardial ischemia and could lead in to chest pain and angina. Other terms for Ludwigs Angina are sublingual space infection and submandibular space infection. This condition seldom occurs in kids.

A diagnostic examination is completed to rule out the condition. It includes neck examination that may be able to show swelling and redness in the neck area, under the chin. The tongue may even be swollen to be noticed. It can block the secretion and swallowing of saliva. A neck CT scan is recommended for patients with suspected Ludwigs Angina.

Ludwigs Angina Treatment:

If the swelling has quickly blocked the airway, an emergency management by a medical professional is necessary. The airway must be opened immediately to prevent a heart assault or a stroke. The moment the heart or brain has not received any oxygen, it can be damaged immediately causing life threatening situations. An invasive surgical procedure called Tracheostomy is completed by generating an open hole in the neck through the windpipe to promote breathing.

Antibiotics like penicillin are given to treat the infection. These drugs are given intravenously until the signs have subsided. Then, oral antibiotics are continued to be taken to fight off the remaining bacteria.
